How to help Hurricane Ida victims
While the hurricane is finally weakening, the victims are going to be impacted long after it passes. Please avoid donating to the red cross as they have been known to misuse funds. The salvation army also has an extensive history of homophobia and transphobia. Here are some groups to support that will directly benefit local communities!
http://cajunnavyrelief.com/ and https://www.thecajunnavy.org/ are local organizations that volunteer to rescue and provide supplies to victims during and after hurricanes
https://www.imaginewaterworks.org/ is another local organization for mutual aid and disaster prep. They’ve put together resources like the Queer/Trans Guide to Hurricane Season, Covid-19 Guide to Hurricane Season and lead the Mutual Aid Response Network
https://mutualaiddisasterrelief.org/ has a sign up form if you are able to volunteer including options that can be done remotely!
https://wck.org/ provides emergency food relief and is in New Orleans making food for shelters
https://southernsolidarity.org/ is a group that organizes food delivery, medical resources, and more services for unhoused citizens in New Orleans
https://anothergulf.com/ida/ has a frontline resource page specifically for Ida as well as a mutual aid response fund for vulnerable families

Sad how Simu Liu is literally promoting Shang-Chi on his own while Marvel is literally doing nothing compared to their other films. Like this movie is huge!! We have an Asian lead who’s a superhero, the majority of the CAST is Asian, AND ITS A LITERAL MARVEL MOVIE?? Where’s the interviews, where’s the merch promo, the different kind of fan posters—like doesn’t that seem a bit sus to ya’ll? Marvel’s doing the bare minimum with the promotion and it annoys the fuck out of me. And instead of constantly asking “whErE’S ThE nO wAY HoMe trAiLeR???” on EVERY fucking Marvel post why can’t some people just appreciate the current content that they’re releasing?🙄
And if y'all dont believe OP:
This man LITERALLY is promoting his own film on his own and has to stand up to bs remarks like this regarding this movie. So I never again want to hear how Marvel/Disney is “doing amazing things for rep” when the COMPANY IS DOING NOTHING TO SUPPORT THE FILMS OR ACTORS OF COLOR IN THESE ROLES.

question— why is it okay for you to use a woc for y/n but when other authors use a white girl then it’s a problem? i’m not saying you said it was a problem but i see so many authors being called out for using white girls (like @/softholand in her last fic— just an example) i’m not trying to be rude, sorry if it ended up sounding like that :/
bc we live in a white supremacist world. turn on your tv, open social media, look at ads around you: who is the standard of beauty? white women. who is fragile and docile and perfect and must be protected by men? white women. who has suffered centuries’ worth of racist stereotypes, enslavement both sexual and otherwise, police brutality, lynchings, unfair employment opportunities, social discrimination? women of colour.
white women are supported by society as a whole. you are viewed as the essence of real women. black women, asian woman, arab women, latin women, indigenous women—we are violent, impure, backwards, barbaric, fit for nothing but hypersexualisation and servitude. that is the world we live in. whereas white women, while living in a patriarchal society, are the standards of beauty, of morality, of womanhood. the entire world we live in is built to uphold you, praise you.
if i, a woc, don’t use a woc to represent a character in my story, who will? will a white woman? no. you can’t possibly understand what it’s like to be a woc and you never will. even if you do make your main character a woc, it will never be authentic—it’s entirely voyeuristic. i write my y/ns to be woc, particularly Black women, bc i, and all woc, have lived my entire life in the margins, a fake woman next to white women. i do it bc it’s the bare minimum, bc we deserve to see ourselves somewhere, at least in our own fucking fantasies. i create representation in my writing bc the world won’t do it, much less view us as fully fledged humans.
if you want to make your reader insert character a white woman, then don’t say it’s x reader. it really isn’t. women of colour are sick and tired of fading into the background and pretend like we don’t exist, especially in fandom spaces where we are readers. we are here. it’s a white!reader. your character is white. i say it loud and proud in all of my fics—my writing is for women of colour. if you’re too absorbed in your woes of white womanhood bc one writer does not cater for you, it’s your choice. i won’t force you to read my work. and i don’t use you to mean you in particular, anon, but in general. if you, as a white writer, refuse to make your main character diverse so that non-white readers can also read your work, that is point blank racism.
if you actually want to learn, i recommend reading white tears/brown scars: how white feminism betrays women of colour by ruby hamad. it’s an excellent read and a great first step towards anti-racism if you’re serious abt your intentions.
